I really love this square! It’s one of my favorites. I love how the spokes in the center are repeated in the corners to turn the flower into a square.

I hope you enjoy crocheting this as much as I do.  

Here, I’ve joined Spokes and Petals Squares with the flat braided join to create a small baby blanket.

  • 8″ x 8″ (20.32 cm x 20.32 cm)

Materials

  • 1 oz worsted weight yarn (size 4) in main color (MC)
  • Small amount worsted weight yarn (size 4) in color for joining (JC)
  • Size K (6.5mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Yarn/tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

  • 25 sc = 7″
  • First 4 rows = 3 7/8″

Notes

  • Pattern is written in US terms.
  • Square is worked in the round, with no turning after each round.
  • If you do not want to use the magic ring, you can substitute: Ch 6, trc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1,*trc in same ch, ch 1; repeat from * 9 more times, join with sl st to 5th ch of beg ch 6. Pull ring closed. (12 trc, 12 ch-1 spaces)

Square

1: (RS) With MC, in magic ring, ch 5 (counts as trc and ch 1), *trc, ch 1; repeat from * 10 more times, join with sl st to 4th ch of beg ch 5. Pull ring closed. (12 trc, 12 ch-1 spaces)

2: Sl st into next ch-1 space, ch 1, 3 sc in same ch-1 space, skip next trc, *3 sc in next ch-1 space, skip next trc; repeat from * 10 more times, join with sl st to first sc. (36 sc)

3: Ch1, sc in same sc as join, dc in next sc, *sc in next sc, dc in next sc; repeat from * 16 more times, join with sl st to first sc. (18 sc, 18 dc)

4: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 10 more times, join with sl st to first sc. (48 sc)

5:  Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in same sc as join, skip next sc, sc in next sc, skip next sc, *5 dc in next sc, skip next sc, sc in next sc, skip next sc; repeat from * 10 more times, 2 dc in same sc as join, sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 3. (60 dc, 12 sc)

Fasten off.

Edging

10: With JC , join with sl st in center dc of any corner, ch 1, 3 sc in same dc as join, sc in next 27 sts, *3 sc in next dc, sc in next 27 sts; repeat from * 2 more times. Finish off. (120 sc)

Finishing

Weave in loose ends.

Block and press lightly on wrong side, following instructions on yarn label.

To block acrylic yarn pin in place and heavily steam. If using an iron to steam, take extra care not to let the iron touch the acrylic yarn or it will melt. Let dry completely.
